Coffee Fruit Tea

Almost everybody loves coffee. It does not only stimulate the brain and keep one awake; it can also improve the mood and help people feel more productive. No wonder it is considered the favourite comfort drink of many.

The rich history of the coffee plant can be traced back to Africa. According to one legend, Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder in the 9th century first discovered the energizing benefits of coffee berries or fruits when his goats became very energetic that they refused to sleep at night after consuming them. He reported this incident to the abbot of a local monastery who made a delicious drink using the said berries. The abbot shared this with the other monks. Thus, coffee berries started to become popular.

Coffee cultivation and trade flourished on the Arabian Peninsula, particularly in Yemen, where the evidence of substantiated knowledge of the coffee tree and its use from the early 15h century was found. It soon spread to Mecca and Medipol.  By the 16th century, the popularity of coffee reached the rest of Middle East, Turkey, Karnataka (South India), Persia, the Horn of Africa, and Northern Africa.

As it became increasingly important in trade and commerce, coffee continued to be popular in other parts of the world such as the Balkans, Italy, and the rest of Europe. It soon spread to Southeast Asia.

Please note the difference between coffee berries and coffee beans. Coffee fruits or berries are the stone fruits that serve as the housing for the more popular coffee beans. The fruits have lower caffeine. Thus, a drink made of coffee fruit is perfect for those who want to regulate their caffeine intake yet enjoy the benefits of drinking the regular coffee.
