Brewing

Water temperature: It is recommended to boil water and let it cool down before use to around 95-100°C (203-212°F). This is done to obtain the rich deep flavors from the tea.

Steeping time: As a general serving amount, using Liu Pao tea leaves use approximately 1-2 teaspoons/ 5-7 grams per teapot. Pour the tea and allow it to seep for about 2-3 minutes. Liu Pao tea can also be steeped for several times, pushing for in depth flavors with every additional steeping.

Enhancements: Contrary to the preferences of many Liu Pao tea is drunk plain just cause it is very complex on its own and doesn’t really need sweeteners or other flavors that enhance the drink.

Enjoy: Savor the drink slowly and both hot and cold to experience the complex and deeper flavors of Liu Pao tea which are obtained after a long process of fermentation and ripening.

Taste Profile

Aroma: Cedar, humid cellar, and sweet dates with betel nut.

Taste: Smooth and mellow; Dark wood and cocoa husk, and dried longan with camphor coolness.

Mouthfeel: Rounded, silky and comforting

Finish: It is clean, slightly sweet and nutty with woodsy depth.

Liquor colour: Dark reddish-brown to dark mahogany.

Lovely with: A square of dark chocolate, some red dates (jujube) or a squeeze of aged citrus peel (chenpi) will do.

Liu Pao Tea What is it?

I bought this on a whim. Thought I'd try something new. It's subtle and earthy, warming and refreshing at the same time. Not quite sure what I'd compare it to, but I would order it again.

How much is shipping?

Couriers Please Shipping is $5.95 for orders under $60 and free for all orders over $60.

Australia Post is always at cost. Orders going to Po Box or Parcel Locker address may be locked in to Australia Post.

What are your transit times?

We dispatch within 24-48 hours (sometimes much faster) and from there we'll see 1-3 days transit to most metro locations within Australia excluding WA and NT which can take a week or so.

We also offer express post which will help speed up the process, at cost with no handling fees. These are always sent as priority and packed first.

Are your teas certified organic?

Up until recently we were certified organic but due to rising administration costs and the difficulty of maintaining certification we've put this on hold for now. Our suppliers and farms remain the same without any change but just now label things are organic, pesticide free or wildcrafted.

This also allows us to maintain our current pricing without any increases which we feel is more important at this time.
