Kanna Tea

Description

Kanna Root and Stem

Kanna (Sceletium tortuosum) also goes by the name of Kougoed and Channa. Being a native plant to South Africa, this herb has an extremely long history beating out even well documented teas from ancient China. Evidence suggests that Kanna was used by early human hunter gatherers for a variety of effects such as relaxation, stress and anxiety relief.

The name of this tea when translated directly means 'something to chew' which if used in prehistoric times would actually be quite accurate as this would have been far before boiling leaves was widespread.

Today, Kanna is mostly used as a mood elevating herb and can very hard to get a hold of outside of Africa. For an in depth history of this roots uses please see this paper here.

Traditionally this is orally consumed. Do not take during pregnancy, or mix with pharmaceuticals, particularly SSRI. Due to lack of study in this area we advise to use at your own risk and if using, please consume a small amount no more than 1g at first and then the regular 2-3g once you feel comfortable.

First steep can be 5 minutes and second steep 20 mins.
